The Shoe of the Seventies

Solatio shoes were the shoes of the seventies. Remembered with great affection by those who wore them throughout a memorable decade when a generation sought loud and exciting fashion as a strong statement of their identity.

Those familiar with the Solatio brand will know just how popular these these styles were back then, when skinhead fashion moved on to smarter styling of the Suedeheads. Enter the Solatio 107 Boxtop which became a must-have pair of shoes in London, matched with a Crombie coat and red socks. Worn to the backbeat of Ska, Motown and Rock these styles were a big deal in those formative years. The 102 Crossover shoe was to become the Northern Soul shoe of choice, worn on the dance floors of the Midlands and the North. Ideal for dancing with the flat leather sole and wide profile they coordinated with the super wide trousers of the time. Throughout the first half of the Seventies, Solatio shoes influenced the men’s footwear fashion scene in the UK and their personality is etched in a generation’s memory.
